Following their deadly battle with Evan in his ascended atropal form, the Pisspots regrouped with Till and Lianna and accompanied them when they teleported to their humble home in Clifton. After resting, Kaicho and Remi discovered the McGregors had skipped town, leaving their mansion in a state of indefinite closure. Their teleportation circle had been destroyed. Evidently, Karl so distrusted the Pisspots with their soul brands that he would cut off even his own access to the home.
The adventurers met a wizard named Braxis who had been searching for them for a long time. He was a defected cultist of the Devouring Eye, a necromancer who believed he had been lied to by those who recruited him. His primary motivation was to hunt down the man who oppressed his people, the Governor, who he learned from the Pisspots was still alive. However, he was also repulsed by the cultists’ grand apocalyptic mission and wished to join the Pisspots to help them stop the coming cataclysm out of self-preservation. Believing him to be truthful, they accepted his help.
The group decided their best chance for interfering with the cultists’ plans was to make haste to Pirates Cove, which Braxis confirmed was their headquarters. There, he suspected, a cultist would sacrifice themself to the Devouring Eye at the time of the celestial alignment, and their body would become a vessel for the evil god. With only a day and a half before the alignment, they decided they could only get there in time with the aid of a Wind Walk spell. They determined that druids at the nature school might be able to help with this. After some teleporting and suffering through a frustrating conversation with the ever-unhelpful Arcanist Stow, they finally arrived at the nature school and obtained Naturalist Jyn’s promise of assistance.
The following dawn, with the alignment expected to begin that night, they received Jyn’s Wind Walk spell, teleported to the lighthouse on Innsmouth Isle, and began their long trek toward Pirates Cove. They arrived around midday with only a couple hours of Wind Walk remaining. They used much of this time for reconnaissance and found that the land and docks within the cove were filled with stationary undead that were seemingly waiting for something. The harbor contained several ships, and within were sleeping cultists.
Mav noticed a field of magical darkness adjacent to the cove wall. He gave Braxis his Scroll of Truesight, gifted to him weeks ago by Arcanist Krell, and the necromancer proceeded to investigate in wind form. Seeing through the darkness a vertical shaft recessed within the wall, he entered and was immediately detected and charmed by some entity above him in the shaft, as the others awaited the apostate cultist’s return above the open roof of Pirates Cove…
Countdown to the end of the world: ~12 hours
