A few notes as I prepare for the next session:
I’m not sure how else to say this, but y’all better start making better decisions or there will be a TPK in your future, probably sooner rather than later. I truly love that Urs and Desmond are clueless and are being played the way that they are: lovable and dumb. However, I’m going to challenge the rest of the party to start thinking, planning, and managing their compatriots a little better, because some characters are currently making important decisions for the party that they probably shouldn’t be making. I’m not talking about getting jailed by Drow, that happens sometimes. But sailing into a dark cliff and making zero effort to stealth/protect/be aware of surroundings as you climb a 250 rock face called Insanity? Let’s just say I kept a lot of the things you should have encountered given that decision in the bag of tricks to avoid mass carnage.
I don’t know how that plays out, and I definitely don’t want any of you to play a character in a way that doesn’t feel right. However, I think some of the characters have been underplaying their intelligence, wisdom, and capacity for party management. It’s likely going to get you all killed. Urs can handle that. I’m not sure about the rest of you. I think it would also be some great role playing to try and figure out the nuances of party dynamics. (Like managing your shapeshifting friend who likes to fight anything that moves.)
Combat is still too slow and arduous, and much of that is my fault. That was a long fight last session, and I wonder how boring it got for all of you. The only way i can think of to speed it up is by pushing the action, and that would also require better initiative management by me. I may press things harder as I get better at this.
Overall, I hope you are having fun, and please reach out to me with any questions/comments/concerns. I am legitimately open to any criticisms or suggestions you have — my overarching goal is to make this fun for you. Don’t be shy 🙂
Final note: I do love your bias towards action. Maybe think about how to not just play your character, but how that character interacts with the others in the party and utilizes their particular strengths for the greater good.
