After killing the goblin archers, the party freed a fortune-seeking gnome cleric named Erky Timbers from a cage, as well as a pair of ungrateful kobolds that Kavagal nearly smashed when he busted down the door. The gnome told them about the Twilight Grove, an underground area beneath the citadel where the magic fruit-bearing tree existed. He also said that a spellcaster named Belak was said to reside there, and that Belak was gifting the magic fruit to the goblins.
Erky joined the party (yes, that makes four clerics), and they decided to retrace their steps to talk to Yusdrayl to see if she had a way of curing the disease Kerath contracted from the bloated mother rat. On the way, Thaddeus solved the dragon door riddle by casting a Turn Undead spell. Inside the sealed room, Kerath triggered a trap by picking up a mysterious crystal whistle with the inscription “Night Caller”. This awoke some undead that attacked the party, which they defeated.
When they returned to Yusdrayl, she was angry that they dared ask for additional assistance and proved to be a very tough negotiator. Qeew gave Yusdrayl 50 gold just to ask the question “Can you heal Kerath?”. Kavagal persuaded her to trade an unknown elixir he had for an elixir of cure disease, which Kerath drank to remove his affliction. Kavagal further appeased Yusdrayl by promising to bring back Kerath’s head–to the ranger’s great dismay–if the party failed to recover Calcryx.
The group continued exploring the citadel until they found the dragon wyrmling locked in a room. Calcryx immediately attacked and knocked unconscious Meepo, its former captor. The party attempted to pacify the dragon and persuade it to return to the kobolds, but it threatened to kill all of them if they attempted to take it back to its cage. The dragon also claimed Meepo as its prey. Thaddeus stalled by convincing it not to kill Meepo immediately and instead to imprison him in a cage in another room. The dragon commanded Thaddeus to lead the way alone, carrying Meepo in his arms, while the rest of the party stayed behind.
