Meepo led Argora, Blumf, Kerath, and Qeew to the kobold queen Yusdrayl, who explained that goblins had stolen the kobolds’ prized dragon, Calcryx. She promised rewards both for returning Calcryx and for bringing her the head of the goblin chief Durnn. Yusdrayl warned that “The Outcast,” a magic-wielding human, supplied the goblins with the magic fruit. She also permitted her captives to join the party: Kavagal, a goliath barbarian; Thaddeus Graves, a human cleric; and Zin, a half-elf cleric.
Accompanied by Meepo, the party proceeded deeper into the citadel. They passed by a magically locked door with a dragon on it and an inscribed riddle: “Rebuke the dead, open the way”. Upon a fountain shaped like a dragon another inscription read “Let there be fire”. When this phrase was spoken, a mysterious red liquid poured out, which Blumf collected.
The party then split, exploring two separate passages simultaneously. Several party members proceeded into a room where they were ambushed by a small group of goblin archers whose positions were fortified behind a low wall. These party members were ultimately forced to retreat. The rest of the party was attacked by a pack of giant rats. In the battle, Kerath was infected with a deadly disease by the giant rat mother, named Guthash (goblin for “Bloated One”). In the rat den they found the remains of Karakas Hucrele, one of the missing explorers they were sent to rescue; his family ring was still intact.
