With another blast of lightning, the kraken knocked out all conscious party members in the exit tunnel–Argora, Jade, and Keeva–where they fell next to Qeew. Amazingly, both Qeew and Jade jolted back to consciousness without the aid of a healer*. Qeew revived Argora, but not Keeva, who she could not see in the darkness. Session 25 — ‘Ello Beastie
In the morning, the party feasted on bacon provided by Durgeddin and owlbear jerky remaining from a previous kill. They departed for the clearing where Zin and Jelsi stashed their gear but found the darklings had stolen most of it. They recovered a few important items, including the bag of holding and some armor and weapons, but Qeew was devastated by the loss of her shinies. Continue reading “Session 25 — ‘Ello Beastie”
Session 24 — Hare-y Bulls
During their rest, the party was approached by a fearless rabbit. They were surprised when it began to address them: Continue reading “Session 24 — Hare-y Bulls”
Session 23 — On the Run
Moments after Blumf slew Monfok in the sphere of darkness and the others finished fighting off Brur and the guards in the room, the doors burst open and over seventy additional guards rushed in and surrounded the party with weapons drawn. Pylax, the captain of the guard, demanded that they explain themselves and tell him where “Lord Kane” was. Many in the party were stunned by the sudden reversal of their situation (though they should have seen it coming!) and were unsure whether to lie or attempt to convince them who Monfok really was. The bodies of the dead guards at their feet would make lying difficult, and when Charlie felt an observer enter his mind he and the others hesitantly decided to try the truth. Continue reading “Session 23 — On the Run”
Session 22 — Memories Restored
While Charlie, Kerath, Qeew, and Lyra were regrouping at the Stagnant Pool, Dark Warren surprised them all by suddenly entering the inn. He revealed that, after studying the history of the town recorded in runes inscribed upon the Founderstone for many years, recent changes in the runes helped him recover the final missing memories of what happened to him decades ago. He recounted the following tale. Continue reading “Session 22 — Memories Restored”
Session 21 — Misplaced Trust
An entry in Kerath’s private journal:
In a rare moment of lucidity, Lyra explained everything. She claimed that Dark Warren was once the benevolent and rightful ruler of this city until Kane arrived in Blassingdell over 20 years ago. She said Kane made a pact with Cyric, the evil god of lies, that enabled him to steal Warren’s seat of power. Kane placed a curse on the city, erasing the memory of its past, and transformed Warren into a dragonborn while also robbing him of his memories. Lyra was a servant girl in Warren’s household and barely escaped with her life, but her memory is still fragmented. She struggled for decades to put the pieces back together and wants to see things return to how they were. Continue reading “Session 21 — Misplaced Trust”
Session 19 — A Bald-Faced Miracle
Blumf pacified the enchanted rug smothering Kerath, which was designed by Arindel to obey the orders of any dwarf. The party then interrogated the charmed duergar, who confirmed that he and the one possessed by Arindel were the last survivors of their kind in Khundrukai. He also revealed that the duergar did not have a stash of Durgeddin’s weapons hidden away, as the party had hoped; instead, he and the other subordinates were ordered without explanation to periodically toss the weapons into a deep cavern. Continue reading “Session 19 — A Bald-Faced Miracle”
Session 18 — “Hey Durgeddin”
Charlie noticed that Durgeddin retained much more of his identity and memories than is typical for an Animate Dead spell. His form was becoming increasingly corporeal and his will was becoming increasingly free of Kerath’s as time progressed. Continue reading “Session 18 — “Hey Durgeddin””
Session 17 — Self-Serving Sacrilege
When the party arrived at Khundrukai, they entered as before through the cave system beneath the stronghold and made their way to the octagonal room at the entrance of the Duergar enclave. As they expected, crossing the threshold into the adjoining throne room triggered the magical alarm they had previously encountered, so they quickly rushed into the near door in the southwest corner. This led to a kitchen and dining hall. There they found no duergar but were instead assaulted by the dinner table, which was apparently enchanted to attack intruders. Though the table was remarkably agile and dodged many of their attacks, the group eventually destroyed the fleet-footed furniture. Continue reading “Session 17 — Self-Serving Sacrilege”
Session 15 — Inept Intimidation
Argora relayed to the party that the six orcs in the next room were arguing and that at least one wanted to depose their current leader, Ulfe, and replace him with another, Yarrack, who had the favor of the queen, Shagol. The party hatched a half-baked plan: to burst into the room claiming to be Ulfe’s enforcers so that those still loyal to their current leader might turn on the conspirators. Little did they know that this room contained only opponents of Ulfe, including Yarrack himself. Continue reading “Session 15 — Inept Intimidation”
