With Ammun quietly observing and occasionally offering ideas, Jani deciphered the duergar battle plans, revealing three locations of attack: The district they had just defended, the royal palace, and the barracks. Just then, First Hammer Rosa Rustblade, leader of the militia, burst into the room, eager to consult with Ammun. The palace had just been attacked, and the king had been captured and carried off. Upon learning that the battle plans revealed her own base of operations as the third target, she rushed off to defend it. Ammun provided the Rovers with a potion that might protect two of them from the duergars’ mind control magic before they too left The Infirmary.

Compelled by some charm, Aengus urged his friends to follow as he turned around and began marching back into the dark tunnel. Urs was elated to return to battle; Vara and Jani were very apprehensive about this sudden change of plans, but did not use force to restrain Aengus.

On a hunch that Aengus’s old friend from divinity school, Skorgithra “Granite” Undergranite, might know something about the “secret society” of clerics subverting King Murgrim’s prohibition against magic, the Rovers went to visit with him. They learned the rumors were true, and also that High Sonnlinor Ammun Amberbranch — the high ranking cleric who opposed Aengus at his trial — had not been seen for a long time. When they asked if the king’s recent behavior seemed strange, Granite cited common gossip that the royal bloodline was a bit inbred and that his judgment had always been questionable. Granite also let slip that Aengus’s estranged fiance was banging some lord at Highgate.

During their last evening on Alfi’s island, Aengus identified Urs’s grotesque bodily distortions as a curse from the fomorian that killed Desmond. He prepared to cure it, but the malady faded overnight on its own.

With a few days remaining to prepare for their assault on the shadar-kai slave camp, Aengus used his divine magic to craft powerful bolt cutters for breaking chains, and, with Urs’s helpful words of “encouragement”, he hammered out a dozen daggers for arming the slaves they hoped to free.

With Vara exhausted but resting safely, the Rovers, along with their hired “marries” Stinger and Bean, hunkered down for a long rest in an abandoned barn in the otherwise deserted town of Valonara. Desmond and Bean took the first watch, and as usual Desmond morphed into an owl to improve his night vision. Despite being warned of what to expect, simple-minded Bean found this transformation very distressing, and it wasn’t until Desmond assumed a different form selected by the half-orc that he really understood. The eyes of a chicken are far less useful for spotting dangers in the dark, but fortunately for Desmond the only surprise was earning Bean’s affection and a spooning.

The Rovers returned to Jorjya. Gladys told the future and made bargains for time. They returned to Lo’Thar. Desmond got laid.
Session 20 — The Arches
The Wilder Rovers were ambushed by Shagol and her tribe of orc marauders. Kerath and Blumf found their quarry and fought beside the Rovers to repel her.
The Rovers returned to the temple of the elements and delivered Tobias to their final destination, who ascended to godhood.
Session 19 — A Bestial Homecoming
After surviving an attack from bandits in the night, the Wild Rovers awoke feeling stronger than ever. They packed up their things and continued following Mack, their bear friend, as he led them toward the city of animals he called home.

Desmond and Aengus quickly regrouped with Vara and Urs, whose memories had just been wiped by the tentacle monster that disappeared with the necklace containing Tobias. Fortunately, their memories returned after just a few minutes of awkward arguing. Vara was certain she was about to receive another beating from Urs for the Command spell she was forced by their enemy to cast upon him, but Urs was driven instead by his most important ‘sponsibility: protecting Tobias.
