Session 56 — Back in the Capital

As the isle of Whig began to fade on the horizon, the Wild Rovers sighted smoke coming from it, but they could not tell how much or what it indicated. Aboard the Second Coming VII, Aengus restored a rapier for Heidi. The Rovers argued about how much to tell Heidi regarding the magical artifacts they were hunting. Vara was less trusting and wanted to keep their secrets close to the chest. Vara, like Desmond, was given up by her parents when she was born as an aasimar, and this fueled some of Vara’s distrust of Heidi.

After arriving in Lo’Thar and saying their goodbyes to the now-retired Captain Tuss Fringfoot, Vara found a note in her pocket: “Mr. Bahama sends his regards”. They made plans to meet Tommy at Death’s Door after a quick bath for a full report of Darius Kensington’s movements.

Meanwhile, Desmond and Heidi went to Mason and Tyresha. Mason sobered up for the meeting, and he mentioned he liked working for Vitas. Heidi, Mason, and Tyresha hit it off, and eventually Desmond left to meet up with the Rovers at the bath house.

Later, at Death’s Door, they found Tommy Bahama, accompanied by his inner circle of guards. He notified them that, indeed, Kensington was back in town. He was spending his nights at a small bar called The Jealous Mistress. He traveled lightly with only three companions: a human and two goliaths. It seemed his confidence in his security was high, and that the large contingent of orcs he was commonly seen with around town were more for a show of importance and power. Tommy described Smithy, the bartender, as a good guy. When Darius made his appearances at the bar, all other patrons were usually forced to leave, but Darius compensated Smithy for the lost business.

With this information, the Rovers began discussing plans for assassination. As before, Tommy and his trusted guards listened and did not discourage lawlessness. Tommy did advise that the fastest way to escape the law if shit hit the fan might be to go underground, through sewers.

Wanting to take on Darius with their full strength, they decided to wait one day before striking, so they spent the rest of this day shopping for magic items. They found one particularly promising item for Urs: an Animated Shield, which would free up his hands for wielding a heavy weapon. The Rovers pooled their gold, platinum, gems, another magic shield, and a jolly dwarf statue to pay for it. Urs assigned an appropriate command word: “hammer time”.
